Accessing Technology at Chatham: Faculty & Staff

This page is a resource to help you become familiar with Chatham technology resources on campus. The Chatham University IT Support Services can assist you with computer and software problems, including Chatham-issued laptop repair, software assistance, email, printing, Wi-Fi, and more.

GET ACCESS TO A COMPUTER

New Full-Time Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff will receive a computer, monitor, and mouse appropriate for their job. Please check with your department or HR about your new equipment before your start date to ensure one has been requested for you. Questions about office equipment should be directed to IT Support Services

 

Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct Faculty should bring their own laptop or plan to use the classroom podium computer. If you would like training or a demo of the equipment, please submit a classroom projection and audio ticket to schedule a time.

MINIMUM TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

Internet Access
High-speed internet connection with a minimum bandwidth of 8 Mbps upload/download speed. Users can check their internet speed by visiting https://www.speedtest.net

Hardware
Most resources are available via smartphones and tablets; however, computer access is required. A computer with at least 8 GB of random access memory (RAM) and 120 GB of free hard drive space is recommended.

Operating System

Microsoft Windows 10 or higher (PC) Mac OS X 10.6 or higher (MAC)

Web Browser The latest versions of Google Chrome,  Mozilla FirefoxApple Safari, or Microsoft Edge (Microsoft Internet Explorer is not supported at Chatham).

 

CONNECT TO THE NETWORK

 

Chatham Secure Network
This is a secure private network to be used by Chatham-issued devices. Users should enter their Chatham username and password to access this network connection. (The same credentials are used for my.chatham and Chatham email).

Chatham BYOD Network
This network is to be used by Chatham students, staff, and faculty personal devices. Users should enter their Chatham username and password to access this network connection. (The same credentials are used for my.chatham and Chatham email).

 

Chatham Guest Network
Users visiting the Chatham campus should use the Chatham Guest Network. To access this network connection, users must agree to the university's Acceptable Use Policy.

GET ACCESS TO UNIVERSITY SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE

Chatham offers a range of software and systems to support teaching, learning, and administrative needs. Students will have access to certain technologies based on their roles. A few of the most used administrative systems are listed below. 

my.Chatham - my.Chatham.edu
This is Chatham's private intranet. It contains the campus directory, documents, forms, and many other campus resources. my.Chatham uses the same login process as email and other systems. Students should be logged into my.Chatham if already logged into other campus systems. If not, please get in touch with IT Support Services for help. 

 

Faculty Portal - portal.chatham.edu
The faculty portal or registration portal is where Faculty submit official grades, access student transcripts, get reports, update personal information, and more.

Ad Astra - my.Chatham > MyTools > Astra Schedule
Ad Astra is the University’s schedule and room management tool. You can view the full calendar and request spaces for an event.
 

Etrieve - chathamcontent.etrieve.cloud
Etrieve content is used by staff and faculty to view student documents, such as FERPA forms and documents related to the Registrar’s Office or Admissions. Document viewing is based on permissions. Please contact IT if there are documents that you need access to.

Brightspace (LMS) - mylearning.chatham.edu
Brightspace is the learning management system for the university. Course syllabus, online classes, course material, grades, assignments, etc. To test your web browser, do the Brightspace system check

Edpuzzle - edpuzzle.com

Edpuzzle is an easy-to-use platform where you can make any video of your lesson. With just one click, you can find video lessons created by other teachers, including formative assessments! With another click, you can adapt that video by embedding your questions or audio. With the last click, assign it to your students and get beautiful, hassle-free analytics: see who watched the video, who didn't understand the lesson, and who did a good job. Students can re-watch the video as often as needed at their own pace, while you can quickly check their progress from your account.

Infobase Learning - my.Chatham > MyTools > 24/7 Technology Training: Infobase Learning Cloud
This system is a repository of over 300+  video tutorials on various technology tools. It is a robust resource. Everyone at Chatham is permitted to use Infobase. Users have to log in with their Chatham email and password. Infobase can be integrated into Brightspace or used as a standalone tool.

YuJa provides integrated video recording, live streaming, video management, and inside-video search. YuJa can be added to any Brightspace course. Users can access it using Chatham accounts.

Poll Everywhere - polleverywhere.com
PollEv is an audience response polling system that allows Faculty to get real-time student feedback. Chatham has a campus license. This tool also integrates with PowerPoint and can be embedded in Brightspace.

VoiceThread - chatham.voicethread.com
VoiceThread is fully integrated with Brightspace, although some faculty use it outside the Brightspace environment. VoiceThread allows users to have a dynamic conversation around a piece of media. Students and Faculty can leave either typed, audio, or video comments. Faculty and students do not need to create accounts – they are automatically created when the tool is used in Brightspace.

Zoom - chatham.zoom.us
Zoom is Chatham's meeting tool. It is both integrated with Brightspace and a standalone tool. It is integrated with Outlook, too. It allows users to connect and video chat, share screens, and more. Everyone at Chatham is permitted to use Zoom. It is connected to AD – they just have to log in with their Chatham email and password.

GET ACCESS TO PRINTERS

Chatham users can access any printer using FollowMe printing. Printers are located throughout the Shadyside, Eastside, and Eden Hall Campuses. On the Shadyside campus, several printers are in the JKM Library on the first floor near the computer lab. If you need assistance printing, fill out a support ticket

EMAIL PROTECTION AND CYBERSECURITY

Chatham utilizes Microsoft 365 for email because of its built-in security to help keep your data safe. When you see a suspicious email asking for an account or other personal information, please do not click on anything. All students, staff, and Faculty are responsible for following the university's acceptable use policy for communication, network, and electronic systems
