Overview
Brightspace by D2L is Chatham's learning management system (LMS). It contains all courses. It is where teachers and students go to submit assignments and participate in forums and online chats. It also allows faculty and students to easily communicate and to post and view unofficial grades. Beginning of Term Information for Faculty
Course Start/End Dates
Brightspace course start and end dates are set according to the academic calendar. Unless otherwise adjusted, please note that Brightspace courses are scheduled to open 1-week before the first day of classes and close 1-week past the last day of classes. To check or adjust your course start and end dates:
- Go to your course.
- On the purple navbar, click on Instructor > Course Admin
- Under Site Setup, click on Course Offering Information
- Scroll down to adjust the Start Date and End Date of the course.
- Click Save
Copying Course Material
Please see the instructions below for importing previous course material.
- On the purple navbar, click Instructor > Course Admin
- Under Site Resources, Click Import/Export/Copy Components
- If copying from another Brightspace course, select Copy Components from another Org Unit and search for the offering.

Managing Course Dates
Faculty can adjust and offset dates on one screen using Manage Dates.
- On the purple navbar, click Instructor > Course Admin
- Under Site Resources, Click Manage Dates
- Select the items you want to bulk edit dates
- Click Bulk Edit Dates

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I get my Textbook integrated with Brightspace?
A. Brightspace has integration with multiple textbook companies, including McGraw Hill, Pearson, Wiley, and more. Instructors need to first contact the textbook company to get a login and establish a course set up on the textbook site. If you have an established course and functional login on the textbook website and are still having issues, contact IT Support Services support@chatham.edu.
