VPN and SPSS Installation (PC)

Overview

Follow these steps to learn how to connect to the Chatham network via VPN and install SPSS on a PC.

VPN Installation

 

1.    Navigate to https://utm.chatham.edu using any browser (Microsoft Edge is used for this example). -- be sure to include https://

 

2.    Enter your Chatham username (first part of email address only) and password when the Sophos User Portal login window opens.

3.     On the left menu, select VPN 

 

4.    click Download client for Windows.

5.    The downloaded file will appear in your Downloads folder unless you changed where files download.  

 

6.    click open file under the file name: Sophos Connect_2.1.20_(IPsec_and_SSLVPN).msi to launch the installer.

Download section on MIcrosoft edge is opened and SOPHOS connect file is shown at the top of the downloads list.

 

7.    Accept the Sophos End User License Agreement and click install

SOPHOS end user liscense agreement and privacy policy are shown in a pop up screen. At the center is detailed the user license agreement. At the bottom are buttons to print, go back, install or cancel, respectively (left to right).

 

8.    Click yes to allow SophosConnect to make changes to your device

9. After the installer wizard has run, launch SophosConnect. You should find it in the Start menu > All Apps (Windows 11) on your PC. Click on the SophosConnect logo to launch.

There should now be a Sophos Connect icon on your desktop.

SPSS Installation

 

1. Go to my.Chatham.edu and click on myTools > Software Center.

2. Find SPSS on the page and click on the icon.

3. Select the Windows version link to download.

*** NOTE: As we upgrade/update our SPSS license every year, the SPSS version (the number after 'SPSS') will change/increase - In the below examples, it shows SPSS27, but we are currently on SPSS29, and the number will increase every year as we renew/update the license.

Note: The download file will appear in your Downloads folder unless you changed where files download.

 

4. Click open file under the .zip file called IBM_SPSS_STA_CL_64-BIT27.0.1.0.exe.zip to unzip.  (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)

5. Next, double-click on the .pkg file called IBM_SPSS_STA_CL_64-27.0.1.0 to launch the installer. (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)

6. You will be asked if you would like to extract all files. Click Extract all.

A pop up is shown asking if you would like to extract all files with options, extract all, run, and cancel from left to right respectively, at the bottom of the screen.

 

7. A new window will pop up with the extracted files. Double click on the application labeled IBM_SPSS_CL_64-BIT27.0.1.0 (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)

The window with the extracted files is open. at the bottom of the list is the desired file.

 

8. When the window pops up, click yes to allow the application to make changes to your device.

9. Once the program is installed, it will be located in the Start Menu > All Apps Folder called IMB SPSS Statistics.

-OR-

There should now be an IBM SPSS Statistics icon on your desktop.

10. On first launch of the program, you will receive an 'Activate IBM SPSS Statistics' Screen (Click on 'Launch License Wizard'):

11. At the License Status window, click Next

12.    Navigate through the installation wizard. When you get to this screen, select Concurrent user license.

13. On the next screen in the box, type LMS02.chatham.local

14.  If SPSS does not shut down and relaunch on its own after clicking Next above, Launch the SPSS Statistics Program again by clicking on the icon on the desktop or through the IBM Statistics App Folder in the the Start Menu > All Apps (both shown above). *** Note: It will take a few minutes to launch the first time

15. You can now close SPSS, and your instructor will let you know how to use the software in class. 

 

 

**IMPORTANT NOTE: Each time you need to use SPSS, and you are off-campus/not connected to Chatham's network/Wi-Fi, you will need to FIRST connect to VPN (SophosConnect) BEFORE launching SPSS Statistics
