VPN and SPSS Installation (Mac)
Follow these steps to learn how to install Tunnelblick (VPN) and SPSS on a Mac.
1. Open any web browser [Google Chrome is used in this example] and navigate to https://tunnelblick.net -- be sure to include the https://
2. Click the green Download arrow to begin the download.
3. The application should automatically start downloading to your computer. Open the installer once the download completes.
4. Double-click the TunnelBlick icon to begin the installation, and click Open to the next prompt.
5. You may be prompted to enter your laptop user credentials to continue the installation.
6. Go to https://utm.chatham.edu using Chrome browser.
7. Enter your Chatham username (first part of email address only) and password when the Sophos User Portal login window opens.
8. On the left menu, select VPN and click Download client for macOS.
9. The downloaded file will appear in your Downloads folder unless you changed where files download.
10. Double-check the .pkg file called “Sophos Connect_1.4_(IPsec).pkg” to launch the installer.
11. After the installer wizard has run, launch Tunnelblick. It can be found on the toolbar in the upper right of the computer. Click the icon and then Connect to start a VPN session.
1. Go to my.Chatham.edu and click on myTools > Software Center.
2. Find SPSS on the page and click on the icon.
3. Select the Mac version link to download.
*** NOTE: As we upgrade/update our SPSS license every year, the SPSS version (the number after 'SPSS') will change/increase - In the below examples, it shows SPSS27, but we are currently on SPSS29, and the number will increase every year as we renew/update the license.
Note: The download file will appear in your Downloads folder unless you changed where files download.
4. Double-click on the .zip file called “IBM_SPSS_STATISTICS_CLIENT_27.0.1.pkg.zip” to unzip. (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)
Next, double-check on the .pkg file called “IBM_SPSS_STATISTICS_CLIENT_27.0.1.pkg” to launch the installer. (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)
5. Welcome to the IBM SPSS Statistics Installer - Click Continue:
6. Important Information - Click Continue:
7. Software License Agreement - Click Continue:
8. Standard Install - Click Install:
9. You will be prompted to agree to download and enter your username and password.
10. The installation was completed successfully - Click Close:
11. Once the program is installed, it will be in the Applications folder called IMB SPSS Statistics 27. (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)
12. On first launch of the program, you will receive an 'Activate IBM SPSS Statistics' Screen (Click on 'Launch License Wizard'):
13. At the License Status window, click Next:
14. Navigate through the installation wizard. When you get to this screen, select Concurrent user license.
15. On the next screen in the box, type LMS02.chatham.local
16. If SPSS does not shut down and relaunch on its own after clicking Next above, Launch the SPSS Statistics Program again by clicking on the SPSS icon in the Applications / IBM SPSS Statistics Folder: (***Remember the note above about the version number - so 27 may be 29 or higher currently)
17. Find the SPSS Statistics icon to launch the program. *** Note: It will take a few minutes to launch the first time.
A successful launch of the program/software, will look something like this:
18. You can now close SPSS, and your instructor will let you know how to use the software in class.
**IMPORTANT NOTE: Each time you need to use SPSS, and you are off-campus/not connected to Chatham's network/Wi-Fi, you will need to FIRST connect to VPN (Tunnelblick) BEFORE launching SPSS Statistics
