Overview
YuJa Panorama is a digital accessibility and course-insights tool now built into every Brightspace course at Chatham. It scores the accessibility of your course content, guides you through fixing issues, and gives students alternative formats of your materials. SmartSpeaker, part of Panorama, adds name pronunciation (AudioName), read-aloud, translation and AI study support.
Audience: faculty, staff and students using Brightspace.

Why we use Panorama
The updated ADA Title II rule requires digital content, including course materials, documents and media, to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. Course files, videos and pages must work for students who use screen readers, captions or other assistive technology.
Panorama gives instructors a built-in way to check where content stands and fix issues before they become barriers. Accessible content also helps students reading on a phone, studying in a noisy space, or learning in a second language.

Key Panorama features
- Accessibility scoring in Brightspace: an at-a-glance score for your course and for each file and page in it.
- Guided fixes: Panorama flags specific issues, such as missing alt text, heading structure or low color contrast, and walks you through fixing them.
- Alternative formats for students: students download materials as audio, e-book or other accessible versions, with no extra work from you.
- Course-level insights: review accessibility across the whole course so you know where to focus your time.
- SmartSpeaker: name pronunciation, read-aloud and study support (see below).
SmartSpeaker
SmartSpeaker by YuJa is part of Panorama. Its AudioName feature replaces NameCoach as Chatham's tool for sharing name pronunciations and pronouns.
Record your AudioName
Follow YuJa's AudioName guide (with screenshots) to:
- Record your name.
- Add its phonetic spelling.
- Select your pronouns.
- Optionally, add your AudioName to your email signature.
View students' pronunciations
Instructors open the Classlist in their Brightspace course. A student's pronunciation and pronouns appear only after that student has recorded them.
Other SmartSpeaker tools
- Read-aloud: listen to course content with natural-sounding text-to-speech.
- Listening preferences: adjust voice, speed and volume, with word highlighting and automatic scrolling.
- Translation: translate text into more than 100 languages.
- Study support: get AI-generated summaries and definitions of selected words or phrases without leaving the content.
These tools require the YuJa SmartSpeaker Chrome extension.
