How to Create a Sway

If you are completing an assignment that requires you to create a Sway, follow the instructions below. Microsoft Sway is a Microsoft 365 app for creating interactive, web-based presentations, reports, and newsletters. It allows users to combine text, images, and multimedia content without requiring advanced design skills. Sway automatically formats content using a built-in engine, making it easy to share via links or embed on sites.

Log in

Chatham Account Login

Go to https://sway.office.com/ and log in with your Chatham account. (You can also access it through webmail.)

 

Getting Started with Sway

You can create a new Sway from scratch, from content in an existing file, or from a topic.

Start Creating

  • If creating a Sway for a class assignment, remember to follow the assignment guidelines and rubric.
  • Select Get started
  • From the Welcome to Sway page, choose to Create New (start from scratch)

 

Storyline

  • The Storyline is where you type, insert, edit, and format the content that tells your story.
  • Content is arranged in sequential order by adding “cards.”
  • Each card holds the type of content you want, such as text, images, videos, and Office documents.
  • You can rearrange the cards at any time.

Title your Sway

  • Select the Title your Sway placeholder text shown in the first card on the Storyline.
  • Type a short but meaningful description of what your Sway is about. If the assignment guidelines require a specific title, use that here.

Add Content

  • Select the + icon at the bottom of the card you want to add content after.
  • Select text, image, video, or other content types.

Find Content

  • Search for and add additional content from your computer, mobile device, or the web.
  • Select Insert on the menu bar.
  • Select the content source menu, and then select the content source you want to search.
  • Type any search keyword or phrase into the Search sources box.

Design and Share

  • Change the design:
    • In the Design tab on the menu bar, select Styles.
    • Select the theme you want.
    • Select Customize in the Styles pane to adjust a specific aspect of the currently applied theme, such as colors, fonts, and animation emphasis.

  • Change the layout:
    • Select the Design tab on the menu bar.
    • In the Styles pane, select whether your content should scroll vertically, scroll horizontally, or appear like a presentation.

  • Preview your Sway:
    • The preview shows how your Sway will appear to others when you share it.
    • Preview your work in progress by clicking the Design tab.
    • Select Play on the top menu bar to fully experience your Sway.

  • Share your Sway:
    • Select Share on the top menu bar.
    • Select an option for sharing your Sway.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I print my Sway?

                       Yes, you can print your Sway by clicking the purple PRINT button at the top of the page.
